Editor, the Advocate:The question keeps getting asked would you vote for Barack Obama? I would vote for him because I’m ready for a change. I do not care if he is white, black, brown and all colors in between. more >>
Editor, the Advocate: I am an elderly woman who stepped off a curb in front of H-E-B at about 6 p.m. Monday afternoon and fell flat on my face. Although I wasn’t critically injured, the facial abrasions caused quite a bit of bleeding. more >>
Editor, the Advocate: Victoria has precious few opportunities to make a difference in ways that will last for decades. We must seize them when they come up. more >>
Editor, the Advocate: Here is an interesting question maybe someone can answer? Why is it that you see all these “Support our troops” yellow magnetic ribbons on so many Victorians’ vehicles, but I can’t even find a house to rent in Victoria because of me having pets! I am a 21-year Army veteran soon to retire and return back to Victoria, but yet I can’t find anywhere to live? “Support” in all aspects! I would rather live outside on the street than to give up my dogs. They, too, are my family and have endured me being gone, and I consider them part of my family. I have found one Realtor in Victoria who’s willing to accept pets but requires a “pet nuisance” clause and outrageous pet deposits! It’s quite a shame that it has to be this way, and I understand that some have ruined it for all, but my two dachshunds are my kids and I would never part with them. Will I find a house to live in with my wife and dogs? Maybe “not” in Victoria, the way things look now. more >>
Editor, the Advocate: This is to the people who leave their unwanted animals in the parks, off the highways, in the country, etc. If you don’t want litters, spay or neuter. Or, for that matter, don’t even have pets. This past Thursday I found two baby kittens by the boat ramp at Riverside Park. Poor things were barely alive. Whatever kind of heartless, uncaring person this was ought to have their head examined! There are places like Adopt-a-Pet, Dorothy O’Connor, or the Victoria Animal Shelter who would take these pets and try to adopt them out. Again, if you don’t want the responsibility of taking care of your pets’ litters, get them spayed or neutered. Don’t let someone else take care of your sick, demented, irresponsible actions. So who ever the person was who left these kittens behind, you obviously don’t have a conscience. more >>
Editor, the Advocate: Wonder why the city will need to increase utility bills? Recently, we drove out to the public dump to deliver an old mattress. We were told that first our pickup would have to be weighed and then there would be a $14 charge even though we presented our utility bill. We commented that this is the reason that in nearby counties, all sorts of trash is dumped in ditches along the roads instead of being taken to the public dump. We drove home with our mattress and called the city and asked them to come to our house and haul away the mattress, which they did for free. Now, do you know why the city needs to raise their utility bill rates? more >>

Editor, the Advocate: I read with great interest Advocate reporter Sonny Long’s article yesterday about TxDOT jobs. In spite of the demands that TxDOT be more open and honest with the public (taxpayers), they continue to be deliberately evasive. more >>

Editor, the Advocate: Many people wonder if there is a spiritual afterlife for animals in a peaceful heaven. The writers of the Bible did not mention it. They gave no explanation for supernatural spirits, apparitions or ghosts that can be seen, but they wrote about the Holy Spirit (Ghost) that cannot be seen. Part of the answer about animal spiritual afterlife may be in evidence of ghosts. A book, “Civil War Ghosts and Legends,” describes human and accompanying animal ghosts long after the war. more >>

Editor, the Advocate: In response to W.E. White. (Aug. 13) Which were the last two presidents who had a surplus? You feel so sorry for yourself; you don’t worry about future generations. Wake up! more >>

Editor, the Advocate: As a resident of Goliad County, it disturbs me that county leaders have spent more than $150,000 — taxpayer dollars — to fund a lawsuit against Uranium Energy Corporation (UEC) regarding a project that many residents either support or have no issue with. more >>
