With core values of integrity and respect, Exelon Nuclear’s corporate culture defines its commitment to the environment, industry and communities. The Exelon Nuclear standard for safe, well-trained employees clearly reflects a dedication to the well-being of its workforce and adherence to regulatory compliance in operations. Exelon Nuclear’s proven successes reflect a record that would support plans and objectives for the proposed Victoria site and the future for more affordable power generation and supply in Texas. With it’s allegiance to partnerships and service to the community, Exelon Nuclear has proven to be a good neighbor and a steward for preservation and conservation while also committing to the future for energy, our industry and our communities.
For 25 years, the ABC Texas Mid Coast Chapter has been committed to excellence and leadership in the construction and maintenance industry and the economic growth of the Texas Mid Coast area. Its Mission is to “protect and enhance the construction industry … by promoting and training a safe, skilled workforce … and promoting member participation and involvement by providing quality services, programs and ways to market members of the association through community involvement.”
The Chapter was formed in 1982 for the primary purpose of promoting the general welfare of the building and contracting industry and the common business interests of its members. It was chartered to promote the merit or open– shop concept of operation, through education and training for its members and its employees and to unite all merit-shop contractors operating in the Texas Mid Coast area. The founding group represented area construction business owners who recognized the need for a unified voice on behalf of the industry.
ABC is a member-based organization and the Texas Mid Coast Chapter is one of 78 chapters across the nation, representing more than 25,000 merit-shop construction and construction-related firms. ABC is the only national association devoted exclusively to the open-shop philosophy. Open-shop companies employ about 86 percent of all construction workers.
The Chapter has an established standard of excellence and work ethic to foster trade and commerce in the construction industry and in the interests of those having business, financial or professional interest in the construction industry. Appreciably, the Chapter promotes legislation that has a positive affect upon the construction industry.
In 2002, the Texas Mid Coast Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors formed the ABC Texas Mid Coast Construction Education Foundation (CEF), established as a vehicle to address the workforce shortage facing the construction industry and its training needs in our area. It is the Mission of the CEF to “strive to meet the needs for a skilled workforce for area industry by providing standardized craft training, safety and educational programs, resulting in a pool of trained crafts-people, experienced in their trade and capable of meeting the owners’ and contractors’ shared workforce requirements.”
In 2004, the board of directors of the non-profit training/education organization, ABC-CEF, representing our area’s industrial and commercial construction and maintenance industry, officially launched its new Training and Education Partnership with the Victoria College.
The CEF is promoting the Construction Industry as a “Career of Choice.”
As we train for the present and plan for the future workforce in the construction industry, current and future industry employees can build a future while learning a trade. The common thread for both organizations is the promotion of a safe, skilled workforce and the business of the construction industry.
ABC and CEF strongly support companies with the philosophy of safety as a “way of work.” We feel that Exelon Nuclear shares that philosophy, and we are confident that the addition of the proposed Exelon Nuclear Power Generation project in Victoria County will be an exemplary reflection of the standards of excellence that will add to the economic well-being of our community growth for our future generations.
Statistical reports show that the nuclear power generation industry is one of the cleanest and most efficient and has the healthiest employees.
Information relates that with improved technology, the nuclear power generation industry is proving to also be one of the safest. The Texas Mid Coast Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors and the ABC Texas Mid Coast Construction Education Foundation (CEF) supports Exelon Nuclear and its proposed Nuclear Power Generation project and look forward to working with its organization in the promotion of safety and training and education in the industry, as it brings added growth, added jobs and an expansion to the construction and maintenance industry in our area.
