Burglars ram Bayside store

BAYSIDE – It was a long night for a J&S Constructors’ white Ford pickup truck. The truck, which belonged to the Corpus Christi business, was stolen from a hotel parking lot in Victoria, driven to Bayside where it was used to ram the doors of a convenience store in an attempted burglary, and then left running and abandoned at a Bayside public boat ramp, a few miles south of the store, a Refugio County deputy said Wednesday. more >>

Man arrested on drinking charge while riding horse

He rode west, like an old-fashioned cowboy, before police arrested a 63-year-old man on suspicion of public intoxication. John Edward Battles was “very unsteady on his feet and having to lean on his horse so as not to fall over,” according to an arrest report. He was arrested after 11 p.m. Saturday. more >>

VICTORIA – A 20-year-old Bloomington man by Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms agents Monday on federal firearms charges. The man is accused of trying to hide firearms in front of a neighbor’s house to avoid getting in trouble for possession of firearms because he has been convicted of assault causing bodily injury and family violence. more >>

Yoakum man arrested for pot possession

YOAKUM – A 36-year-old Yoakum man was arrested Friday night after marijuana and “equipment that is routinely used to package drugs for distribution” were found in his home. Calvin Ray Price was taken into custody at his home in the 200 block of Davidson Street after Lavaca County Sheriff’s Department deputies, Department of Public Safety troopers, and Yoakum Police Department officers executed a search warrant at his home, according to a news release from the Lavaca County Sheriff’s Office. Price is charged with possession of marijuana. more >>

2007 robbery still unsolved

Victoria Crime Stoppers and the Victoria Police Department are seeking information about the people responsible for a 2007 robbery in south Victoria. Police investigation shows that at approximately 3 a.m. on Oct. 27, a store on SW Moody Street was robbed by an unidentified white man. The man, captured on surveillance photos, is described as in his mid 20’s to mid 30’s with short blond hair and tattoos on his right forearm. more >>

Bright flashes and explosive noises disoriented the alleged drug dealer long enough for police to enter the home filled with loaded assault rifles. Victoria police and Sheriff’s officers busted into the house at 2515 Putney St. at 8 p.m. Friday after throwing eight flash bang devices into the home, Police Chief Bruce Ure said. Officers overtook 43-year-old Marcus De Leon Garza and arrested him. more >>

MEYERSVILLE – Deputies arrested a 15-year-old boy Friday who had escaped from the Victoria County Juvenile Detention Center Thursday night.
