The line-up includes classical guitarist Paul Galbraith, Grammy-winning vocalist Cynthia Clawson, violin concertos by Bach and Vivaldi, and Eric Clapton songs performed on the harpsichord by artistic director Craig Hella Johnson, according to a Bach Festival news release. The festival culminates with a performance of Giuseppe Verdi’s “Requiem” that will feature a combined orchestra and chorus of 280 musicians.
“2008 is a year of drama at the Victoria Bach Festival,” Johnson said in the news release. “Every concert tells a vivid story, from the compelling rhythms of the Bach concertos to the father/son drama of Abraham and Issac; from composer Bedrich Smetana’s setting of his life story in a string quartet to the soaring voices of the Festival finale: Verdi’s ‘Requiem.’”
Individual concert tickets range from $20-$30 for adults, $15-$25 for seniors and $10-$20 for students. Season tickets for five evening converts cost $100 for adults, $80 for seniors and $60 for students.
There are also several free public concerts over the week, including a children’s concert on June 19 at the Victoria Public Library, according to the news release.
Tickets are available at the Bach Festival offices, 361-570-5788, the Cultural Council of Victoria, 361-572-2787 and online at www.victoriabachfestival.org.
