Lisa Cortez and Christina Thompson, ophthalmic coding specialists, have passed the Ophthalmic Coding Exam. Cortez was a billing representative for Victoria Eye Center for three years. Thompson has been with Victoria Eye Center for two years and has certifications in medical assisting, coding and billing from The Victoria College.
Rosemary Baker recently was named the June Employee of the Month at the University of Houston-Victoria. Baker is the registration/scheduling assistant and scanner in Admissions and Records. She started at UHV in September 2005. Baker received a framed certificate and a $50 gift card.
Mary Villanueva has been promoted to Manager of Deposit Operations/Assistant Vice President. Mary has been with TrustTexas Bank for more than 6 years and most recently served as Assistant Vice President / Deposit Operations.
Jifu Wang, chairman of the University of Houston-Victoria’s School of Business Administration Management and Marketing Department, was recently appointed interim dean. Wang was hired in 2001 and will oversee the school while a search committee selects a new dean.
Rick Harrington, University of Houston-Victoria psychology professor and coordinator of psychology programs, recently was named chair of the Social and Behavioral Sciences Division of the School of Arts & Sciences. Harrington has been a UHV faculty member since 1987.
Lee Chao, a University of Houston-Victoria professor of computer science and mathematics, recently was promoted to chair of the Science, Technology and Mathematics Division in the School of Arts & Sciences. Chao has taught at UHV since 1995.
Thomas Williams was recently hired as the first chair of the Humanities Division of the University of Houston-Victoria’s School of Arts & Sciences. Williams is a nationally known blues scholar and a former speaker at the UHV/American Book Review Spring Reading Series.
