Ovidio Garcia recently was hired as the community college coordinator in University of Houston-Victoria’s Letting Education Achieve Dreams program. Garcia will assist first-generation community college students transfer to UHV to earn bachelors’ degrees.

Emily Krenek recently was hired as an online support technician for the University of Houston-Victoria School of Education & Human Development. Krenek will assist students and professors with the technology side of Web-based classes. Krenek holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science information systems and is pursuing a master’s of business administration from UHV.

The American Advertising Federation-Victoria named Sheila Westerholm 2007-2008 Member of the Year. Westerholm, an account executive at Suddenlink Media, was selected for her outstanding efforts as chair of the organization’s ADDY Awards Committee.

Michele Rohde, of Edward Jones, financial services recently received the Regional Leader Award for her sales and service efforts over the past year. Rohde recently received the Ted Jones Prospecting Award at the regional meeting in South Padre Island.

Two teachers from Victoria and one from Hallettsville recently participated in a teacher institute Humanities Texas, sponsored in San Antonio. John Bednarczyk of Howell Middle School, Jessica Griffith of Crain Middle School and Doug Kubicek of Hallettsville Junior High School joined teachers from across the state at “From Disunion to Empire: The United States, 1850-1900,” an institute sponsored by Humanities Texas and Trinity University. The program provided teachers the opportunity to come together to learn from each other and from leading scholars in the field of U.S. history.
