CORRECTION

Name: Patrick McEnroe

Age: 87

Office Seeking: The Victoria College board of trustees

City and County of Residence: Victoria

Current Occupation: Retired from U.S. Air Force

Why do you want to serve in this office?

I have a question of transparency of funds. I think the public needs to know, to be more aware of what they’re doing with their funds.

What three issues facing this office do you feel are the most important and how will you approach them?

One I think is important is the University of Houston - Victoria going to a four-year university will help or hinder enrollment at Victoria College. I’d have to know more about it before I knew what to do about it. Victoria College needs to expand, or actually continue, with education programs to have people learn trades. Other than that, I think they should be frugal with the taxpayer’s money.

Why do you want to serve in this office?

I have been on the Victoria College board since 1985 and have worked with the other board members to keep Victoria College an institution with strong fiscal controls, which provides an outstanding academic education, solid vocational and technical programs, and a wide range of continuing education courses.

What three issues facing this office do you feel are the most important and how will you approach them?

1. Victoria College board must choose a new president to continue the outstanding leadership Jimmy Goodson has provided over the last 19 years.

2. Victoria College should continue to exercise strong fiscal controls, which will provide a variety of strong educational programs while keeping tuition and taxes as low as practical.

3. Victoria College must be structured to respond to the changing educational needs as well as continuing the basics of education.
