Early voting starts Monday for local elections

Early voting begins Monday for the May 10 city and school board elections.

Victoria school district board of trustees has two seats contested in the election. Les Deuel, a retired educator and sales person, 51, has filed for District 3 as well as incumbent Lou Svetlik, who is in his second term.

Dr. Charlie Jaynes, 61, has filed for District 5 against incumbent Tami Keeling, who was elected in 2005.

Three seats on The Victoria College’s Board of Trustees are up for election. No one filed against incumbents Roger Welder in District 3, or Thomas Marion O’Connor in District 5. Patrick McEnroe, 87, a retiree from the U.S. Air Force, and incumbent Ron Walker are seeking the District 7 seat. The trustees serve three-year terms.

Those in Drainage District No. 2 will elect directors for Places 1 and 3. Only Martin “Pee Wee”Robles Jr. is seeking the director Place 2 seat. Warren Harvey White and Jesse Cantu are candidates for director, Place 1. Arnulfo Reyes Jr., James E. Hilscher and Leland “Louie” Lang are vying for the director, Place 3 seat.

Three positions are open on the board of Drainage District No. 3. Justin “Bubba” Leita, Victor Neisser and Thomas Cartwright have filed for the offices and Duane Beal is a write-in candidate. The directors serve four-year teams.

Bloomington residents will elect two candidates to serve four-year terms on the Water Control and Improvement Board, District 1. Jackey Benjamin Herrera, Billy “Bill” Tindall, Gordon Alford and Elroy C. Alex Jr. are seeking the seats.

Residents in Placedo will elect candidates to fill two positions on the Water Control and Improvement Board, District No. 2. The candidates are John Wade McGrand, David Priour and Linda Hoffer.

Four candidates have filed for two open positions on the Quail Creek Municipal Utility District board of directors. Bobby Shafer, Richard Reyes, Charles T. Miller and Dustin Ferguson are candidates for the offices.

The district will also vote on a proposition to double the miscellaneous charge from $5 to $10 per month per customer. The money will go to street lighting ($3.50 per month per customer), the homeowners’ association ($5 per month per customer) and the volunteer fire department ($1.50 per month per customer).

Early voting will take place at the Elections Office, 111 N. Glass St., from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Tuesday, May 6.

Three temporary branch voting sites will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday at the Water Control and Improvement District No. 1 Office, at 93 Illinois St. in Bloomington; the Water Control and Improvement District No. 2 Office, 91 Preston St. in Placedo; and the Quail Creek Municipal Utility District Office, 515 Chukar Drive in Victoria.
