advertising

Editor’s note: The school and city elections will be Saturday, May 10. To help voters learn more about the contested races in their communities, the Advocate will profile those races. Today’s candidates are seeking the District 2 position on the Cuero city council.

Name: Keith W. Catron

Age: 37

Office Seeking: City Council, District 2

City and County of Residence: Cuero, DeWitt County

Current Occupation: Licensed Vocational Nurse

Why do you want to serve in this office?

I have been here seven years, and I want to get more involved in the community. When some people are in office a long time, they get stale. We need new ideas to help this community grow. I’d like to see businesses expand and see more businesses come here and stay here.

What three issues facing this office do you feel are the most important and how will you approach them?

Streets – Shift more of the budget to the streets and fix them the right way.

Drainage – Instead of waiting and hoping for grants, allocate more of the budget to drainage. As the economy worsens, the grants may not be there. A lot of our streets need gutters and drainage.

Budget – It needs to be reworked and the money routed in better ways. A lot of infrastructure repairs need to be addressed.

Why do you want to serve in this office?

I’ve devoted my life to service. I want to serve in this office because my knowledge of how the city should be run is needed very badly.

What three issues facing this office do you feel are the most important and how will you approach them?

Lack of council input on how city is run – Too much power has been given to the city manager. Revise the city charter to give power back to the peoples’ representatives.

Financial reports – Insure the council receives a monthly financial report. Hire a strong financial officer.

Budget – Make sure peoples’tax dollars are used for the benefit of the people. We also need to hire a public works director.
