Jury selection begins Monday for grandmother

Jury selection starts Monday in the trial of a woman accused of blackmailing two young relatives with pornographic pictures.Joyce Marie Smith, 63, is charged with 10 counts of possession of child pornography. She kept pictures of the girl and boy’s genitals and other body parts, according to the indictment.
Smith's son, Grady A. Hendon was sentenced to life in prison in February, after a jury convicted him of sexually assaulting the same boy and girl.
During Hendon’s trial, prosecutor Eli Garza said Hendon took the pictures of the children, who lived with Smith. Smith later found the pictures, Garza said. Rather than turn Hendon in, Smith threatened to show the pictures to their friends, Garza said.
Jury selection starts at 9 a.m. in Judge Robert C. Cheshire’s courtroom.
