Two of the injured men were in critical condition at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston.
The black SUV was traveling west on Farm-to-Market Road 1301 at about 6:40 a.m., south of Wharton, when it became airborne and then overturned several times, Department of Public Safety Trooper Michael Hubenak said.
“All of the passengers were ejected from the vehicle,” Hubenak said.
The three passengers were taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston by LifeFlight helicopter and helicopters from two other air ambulance services.
“We have one ID and are trying to determine who it belongs to,” Hubenak said. “None of the other passengers had any identification on them.”
A relative of the person with the identification was called to Galveston County Medical Examiner’s Office to try to determine if the ID belonged to one of the fatally injured.
As of 4 p.m. no identifications had been made.
The farm road was closed for several hours as emergency workers cleaned the debris from the road.
