Former Wharton baseball coach Floyd Ciruti will be inducted into the Greater Houston Area Coaches Association Hall of Honor.

Ciruti, who retired after this season, will participate in induction ceremonies Tuesday night after the association’s Class 3A-4A All-Star Game at Rice’s Reckling Park in Houston.

Ciruti was the head baseball coach at Wharton for 33 years and had an overall record of 547-310.

Ciruti led the Tigers to 26 playoff appearances and the 1980 state tournament. More than 70 of the players he coached went on to play at the college level and more than 10 played professional baseball.

Ciruti was a two-time all-American outfielder at Sam Houston State and hit .392 in 1972 when the Bearkats finished third in the NAIA World Series. Ciruti was inducted into the Sam Houston State Hall of Honor in 1992.

Wharton graduate J.D. Rivera will play in the all-star game, which is scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m.
