Rocha elected to Refugio school board

REFUGIO – The Refugio school board has canvassed Saturday’s election returns and declared them official.Andy Rocha won the contested election for Place 6, with 53 votes against write-in candidate James R. Durst, who obtained 27 votes, said Marilyn Beuershausen, administrative assistant with the Refugio school district.
Rocha will be sworn in on Tuesday at the regular board meeting.
Incumbent Brad Gillespie did not seek re-election.
The election for single member district, Place 7 was canceled because the incumbent Ethel Garza had no opponent.
Election results were canvassed on Wednesday.
