REFUGIO – Robert Bolcik won the Refugio County Democratic Party nomination for sheriff.

Robert Bolcik received 50.99 percent of the votes, while challenger Dean Ochoa received 41.79 percent. The third candidate, Joel Bear Jr., came in third with 7.22 percent of the votes.

Ballots will be canvassed March 13, elections administrator Rachel Garcia said. But, there are not enough ballots outside the U.S. to make a difference in the race.

“I am pleased with the turnout we had and pleased with that the majority wanted experience and qualifications,” Bolcik said. “My plans now are to gear up for the November elections.”

Bolcik will face Republican and incumbent Earl Petropoulos in November. The two squared off four years ago as well.

In the race for county commissioner Precinct 1, Ann Lopez won with 60.58 percent of votes. George Hernandez Sr. carried 39.42 percent of the votes cast.

“I am excited, I am looking forward to working past the November elections and working for the people of Refugio County,” Lopez said. Precinct 1 is uncontested in the general election.

For county commissioner Precinct 4, Rod Bernal won with 55.92 percent of the votes. Opponent John Reyna received 44.08 percent.

“Thanks to the people for supporting me. Like I told them, I will be a full time commissioner,” Bernal said.

Bernal will face Republican nominee Dwight Mutschler in November.
