Tornadoes near Bayside cause most damage in region

The sky darkened over Bayside and the heavy rain started as a squall from Hurricane Dolly moved inland from the Gulf of Mexico on Wednesday.It wasn’t long after that the National Weather Service received a report of damage caused by a tornado six miles south of the small coastal town in Refugio County. more >>

Burglars ram Bayside store

BAYSIDE – It was a long night for a J&S Constructors’ white Ford pickup truck. The truck, which belonged to the Corpus Christi business, was stolen from a hotel parking lot in Victoria, driven to Bayside where it was used to ram the doors of a convenience store in an attempted burglary, and then left running and abandoned at a Bayside public boat ramp, a few miles south of the store, a Refugio County deputy said Wednesday. more >>

Union Pacific removes 102-year-old bridge truss

REFUGIO – Union Pacific Railroad crews removed the 102 year-old 303,000 pound truss on the bridge spanning the Mission River parallel to U.S. Highway 77 on Monday. It was a feat of structural engineering to replace the truss with a beam and girder bridge. more >>
