A coffee club has no place to meet
advertising
EDNA – Men who meet at Edna’s McDonalds for a coffee club will need a new location after July 7.

The McDonalds will close to be demolished and rebuilt, forcing the men to find another place for a few months.

The same 15 to 18 men have met for years now, the second youngest member of the group, Jim Chase, said.

Their meeting place is McDonalds, but in the past, it has been Whataburger or anywhere.

The group has not picked a new location, but they’ll “figure it out,” Chase said.

“You’ll come and there’s nobody sometimes, and you’ll be sitting by yourself. Other times you’ll come and all of us’ll be here,” the 64-year-old Edna native said.

Q: How often do you meet?

A: Usually, we meet here every morning from 9 to 10 and every afternoon from 2 to 3. Of course, some come earlier, others a little later, and sometimes they’ll stay long after if they get to talking.

Q: What do you talk about?

A: Most of the time we’re picking on each other, just friendly visiting, But you know, every body has his different view. I’ll go home and my wife’ll ask, ‘Well, what did ya learn?’ And I’ll tell her, ‘Nothing.’ But we talk about the people who are in the hospital, who’s where, and people that have passed away.

Some of the guys have interests, like gardening, and they talk about that. We just kill time.

Q: Where will you meet when the McDonalds closes?

A: We’re still waiting for someone to offer to have it at their house. No one has said anything yet. I don’t know where we’ll meet, but we’ll find a place.
