Cobras’ seniors accept challenge to become leaders

Richter, a senior linebacker and running back for the Industrial Cobras, and his teammates are starting a new tradition of meeting to eat together before every game this season. Jackson County judge goes to Scotland

Jackson County Judge Harrison Stafford’s love for travel abroad began when he he was in college. The judge will leave Sunday on a 10-day trip to Scotland with 30 other Texans and his wife, Jeanette, visiting the western coastal city of Oban for the first half of the trip and heading to the inland town of Stirling for the remaining days. more >>

Pedestrian killed on Highway 59 in Edna

EDNA – A 41-year-old man from Mexico died after he was struck while walking on the shoulder of U.S. Highway 59 in Edna on Sunday. Martin Oscar Hernandez Ovalle drove a Chevrolet Suburban which pulled two other vehicles, said Craig Repka, investigator at the Edna Police Department. Ovalle and another man stopped their trucks half a mile north of state Highway 111 at 2:27 a.m. to check the tires. more >>

Ambulance wreck

EDNA – A Ford F-350 struck a Jackson County ambulance around 9 a.m. Tuesday as the ambulance was responding to a grass fire off U.S. Highway 59 South, injuring both drivers, a trooper said. They were taken to hospitals by private vehicle, Department of Public Safety Trooper Brandon Curlee said. Both were released after treatment. more >>
