ROUND ROCK (AP) – Hunter Pinney drove in two runs and scored three times as Flatonia cruised into the Class 1A state baseball championship game with a 12-0 win Friday over Seymour.
Flatonia will meet Bosqueville in today’s final.
Bosqueville beat Pineland West Sabine 18-2 in Friday’s other semifinal. Pineland West Sabine committed 10 errors.
Dakota Pinney struck out nine for Flatonia (25-5-1) and Sean Masek had two RBI . Seymour (17-13) starting pitcher Hayden Holub allowed only four hits but gave up 10 walks.
Flatonia scored two runs in each of the first two innings and led 6-0 before a six-run burst in the fifth.
In the other semifinal, T.J. Samford went 3-for-5 with 4 RBI and scored four times to lead Bosqueville (20-6-1) in the rout. Hunter Perry pitched a complete game, allowing Pineland West Sabine just four hits. Perry also drove in three runs.
Plano West 11, Laredo United 4
Ryan Hughes hit one of three home runs for Plano West and had three RBIs in an 11-4 victory against Laredo United in the semifinals of the Class 5A state tournament Friday.
Plano West (39-2) advanced to Saturday’s championship game against the winner of Friday’s late game between Houston Bellaire and Southlake Carroll.
The other homers for Plano West came from Harrison Holmes and Jason Coats, who had two hits apiece. Holmes’ other hit was a triple.
Plano West starter Ben Flora (13-0) shut out Laredo United (32-8) through the first five innings while Plano West built a 7-0 lead. Flora allowed two hits and two unearned runs while striking out seven in 5 1/3 innings.
Jorge Guarneros (11-2) took the loss for Laredo United after allowing nine runs – eight earned – and eight hits in five innings.
