Cuero school district hearing on tax rate, budget is Friday

CUERO – The Cuero school board will meet in special session at noon Friday to receive public comment on the proposed 2008-09 budget and tax rate.The proposed tax rate is $1.29189 per $100 valuation, a slight increase from last year’s rate of $1.28875. Of that proposed rate, $1.13243 is for maintenance and operations and 15.946 cents is for debt service.
The district’s proposed operating budget is $14,924,700.
Total taxable values in the school district increased $58,109,500 from last year. The average market value of a home in the school district rose from $48,241 to $53,043. If the proposed tax rate is adopted, the taxes due on an average home in the school district will rise from $428.39 to $491.47, a $63.08 increase from last year.
Following the public comment, the school board can vote to approve the proposed budget and adopt the tax rate.
