Sometime after 3 p.m., entry was gained through the back of the Little Red Apple, a breakfast taco restaurant at 118 S. Church St.
“They took the cash register, but the owners said there wasn’t anything in it,” said Josh Chanek, a Yorktown Police Department patrol officer who is investigating both burglaries. “I found bits and pieces of it down the road.”
Also sometime after 5:30 p.m. Thursday, the back door of a warehouse at the corner of 1st Street and Riedel Street was “forced in,” said Chanek. Reported missing are a handgun, a rifle, three computers and a survey tool.
Owner Billy Kleine said the building serves as a warehouse and a personal office. Kleine is a rancher and owns Indianola Trading Post, the Yorktown Purina dealership.
“I haven’t had a chance to go through the entire warehouse, so we’re not sure exactly what is missing,” Kleine said.
Items Kleine knows are missing include an Anschutz .22 caliber target rifle that belonged to his father, a Springfield .40 caliber pistol, Dell and Toshiba laptop computers, a Dell desktop computer, and an AGL laser level survey tool.
Kleine said he is considering a reward but will give the police “a few days” to sort things out.
“People like this need to be caught and punished,” Kleine said.
Chanek said that at this point in the investigations the two burglaries do not appear to be related. The warehouse and the restaurant are on opposite sides of town.
