Emergency management coordinator LaDonna Thigpen gave the run-down on Hurricane Dolly.
Q: How will Dolly affect Calhoun County?
A: "The tides will rise a foot or two. We have low-lying areas down at Magnolia Beach. Ocean Drive goes under water during high tides. It depends on what time of day it hits us. If it goes in a high tide, it inundates the beach area. At low tide, it’s not as bad. It depends on how much water is coming in."
Q: What should residents do?
A: "Just monitor it. I don’t think we’re really going to have too much unless the rain bands come in and stall over us. Then, we’ll get 3- to 4-inches of rain. If you have Cable One in Calhoun County, tune into Channel 3 for 24-hours-a-day weather information."
Q:Where else can residents go for information?
A: “We just got our Web site up and running. We’re going to start putting emergency information on our Web site – calhouncotx.org. We try to update it."
Q:What else can residents do to prepare, especially with the strong winds?
A: "Right now, making sure they have their supply kit stocked and ready to go. Get their important papers together because it is hurricane season. Just bring in loose objects from outside. I don’t expect anything more than what we always get."
Q:How fast can these storms develop?
A: "If they develop out here in the Gulf, we don’t have much time to react. We have to make decisions pretty quick."
