Game rooms raided in Bee County
BEEVILLE – A crackdown on illegal 8-liner game rooms in Beeville last week resulted in 13 arrests and the seizing of $12,000 in cash. On Friday, Aug. 15, Beeville County Sheriff’s deputies along with officers from three other agencies raided four businesses, Lucky Tri, Lucky Bucks, Touch of Vegas, and Horseshoe Fun and Games. In addition to the arrests, officers seized about $12,000 in cash and confiscated 203 machines used in the illegal gambling, according to reports from the sheriff’s office. more >>August 19, 2008
Parents shouldn’t linger after dropping off students
Q: My wife and I are driving our son to college. I want to drop him off at the gate but she wants to spend the day on campus. How do we find middle ground? A. As hard as it is to hear, most colleges prefer parents to exit the scene as quickly as possible. Of course your son will need help carrying his television up four flights of stairs and maybe he’ll need help making his bed, but the sooner mom and dad leave the sooner the new student can get down to the business of making friends and participating in campus activities.
