EDNA – A 41-year-old man from Mexico died after he was struck while walking on the shoulder of U.S. Highway 59 in Edna on Sunday.

Martin Oscar Hernandez Ovalle drove a Chevrolet Suburban which pulled two other vehicles, said Craig Repka, investigator at the Edna Police Department. Ovalle and another man stopped their trucks half a mile north of state Highway 111 at 2:27 a.m. to check the tires.

Mahfouz Abu-Salah, 46, of Plano was also driving south and hit Ovalle while he walked to his truck, Repka said. Abu-Salah also hit the dolly attached to Ovalle’s truck, which caused Abu-Salah’s International Bobtail truck to flip, Repka said.

The incident remains under investigation, Repka said.
