COLLEGE STATION – Anton Arthurs caught two second-half touchdowns as Richland came from behind to defeat Mesquite 35-32 for the Division I 7-on-7 state football championship Saturday. Tyler Cotton threw five touchdowns and converted all five extra points for Richland. Two of his receivers made the all-tournament team, including Arthurs and Phillip Gonzales, who was named MVP despite sitting out the championship game with an injury. more >>
Blake Payne is headed north to play baseball at Seminole State College in Seminole, Okla. after gaining a scholarship offer with a good summer league game in Hillsboro. “The coach (Jeff Shafer) was there and saw me and offered me a full scholarship,” Payne said. “Basically he just told me to look at their website and see what I thought. After seeing the campus I decided it would be a good fit for me.” more >>
East Bernard junior pitcher Courtney Repka was named the Player of the Year on the Collin Street Bakery/Texas Sports Writers Association's Class 2A all-state softball team released this week. East Bernard's Amy Bush was named Coach of the Year and her third baseman, Samantha Wasek, was named to the first team. more >>

The 7-on-7 football state tournament has been around for 11 seasons, but it will be a new experience for Beeville and Rice Consolidated. Beeville and Rice Consolidated have qualified for the 7-on-7 state tournament for the first time and will be part of the 64-team field competing on the campus of Texas A&M in College Station. more >>
Memorial senior center fielder Erikka Murphy was named to the first team of the Collin Street Bakery/Texas Sports Writers Association Class 5A all-state softball team for the third straight year. Murphy, who will play next season at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette, batted .553 with 27 runs scored and 29 stolen bases. She was named the Most Valuable Player in District 27-5A and was chosen the Offensive Player of the Year on the 2008 Advocate All-Area Softball Team. more >>
