Having not lived in Texas for more than 40 years, coming back to Victoria is an emotional experience for Viola de Leon Teeter. A direct descendant of the city’s founder, Martin de Leon, Teeter had heard a lot of stories about her ancestors from the time she was a little girl. “Every time I come back here, I think about all the generations of my family that have lived here, worked here and all that they built and suffered through,” she said. “It’s almost like when you go to Rome to see the Coliseum and you pretend you were there during its prime. But the 10-year-old faces challenges few children his age encounter, which made his decision to follow in his twin sisters’ footsteps this year by showing his goat, Tom, in the Jackson County Youth Fair so remarkable. Why do you want to serve in this office? If elected, what are your goals for this position? I am running for re-election because I want to continue making a difference for the people of Victoria County and Precinct 3. It has been a privilege to serve on Commissioners’ Court since 2005, and I am excited about the new opportunities that are emerging for our community. A lot of hard work has been done in moving our county forward, but there is still much to do.
