Scientists working on similar projects to that in National Geographic or on the Discovery Channel call the University of Texas Marine Science Institute at Port Aransas home base.

Last week, the 72-acre institute hosted the Texas Tropical Trail board of directors, who toured the facility and rode on the UTMSI research vessel Longhorn. The guests taking the cruise would be some of the last for the vessel, which is being decommissioned. More tours are planned for various organizations in the months to come.
